For the launch of the RAW Leica camera, G-Star teamed up with longtime collaborator and famed photographer Anton Corbijn. His role as ambassador for the project was a natural one as G-Star and Anton have a long history of working together and Anton has shot with Leica cameras throughout his career.
An autodidact, Anton has changed his approach to photography a few times over the years but kept relatively close to his first subject matter: artists in general and specifically musicians. For G-Star, Anton captured many campaigns, including RAW Talents such as Liv Tyler, chess Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen and French actress Clémence Poésy.
Want to shoot like Anton? When Anton received the very first RAW Leica camera, we asked him for some tips on how to make the best pictures with the RAW Leica. The tips below are explained by Anton himself in the video.
1 - Photograph against the sun or sun on any side, it is all interesting.
2 - Don't follow photography tips in general; accidental discoveries are worth coming across.
3 - Imperfection is underrated.
4 - Make sure you don't take too many photographs per day, instead concentrate on what you want to achieve. The next day, take hundreds and then see which way gets the most out of you and your camera.
Since its introduction in 1925 street photographers favour Leica for their outstanding qualifications and high functionality. Especially the format and compact lens of the industrial classic, enabled photographers to take pictures more easily, and spontaneously.
The Leica D-Lux 6 ‘Edition by G-Star RAW’ combines these distinguishing assets with a new dot structure on the leather body trim, giving it an effective grip. The special edition comes in a brown leather case, and features an exclusive carrying strap with a matching hand strap.
Sharing similar aesthetics, the G-Star and Leica crossover is a natural collaboration. Both brands utilise design where form follows function, and stand for high-quality products of authenticity and durability.
G-Star admires Leica for their industrial look and hand-made build. The denim brand is very excited to include a camera to the RAW Crossover Series. Cameras are one of the most important and inspiring tools for people to share and spread their experiences.
